Traditionally, the role of the professional mourner is to take on and transcend the grief and pain of others. To create this choir, from a performative point of view, we started from a protocol far removed from any psychology. Crying provokes internal and physiological changes that we find interesting to explore as a group.

Released in 1987, Beds Are Burning is an internationally acclaimed political song calling for the return of their native lands to the Pintupi aborigines, stolen 200 years earlier by British settlers. By speaking of the despoiling of a territory and its exploitation for maximum profit, the defense of the aboriginal people is coupled with a more global ecological message, and underlines the urgency of becoming aware of the impact of human activities on the planet.

1987…2023, the lyrics still ring true. For if (Re)Mix is about transition, the tears support a past transition that has only accelerated towards the worst. Crying this song is a desperate gesture to accept the mourning of what we have lost, and to look for new ways to rebuild ourselves and regain hope.
